17 Months of Breaking Barriers to Bring High-Quality Ingredients to Calcutta

We’ve been open for 17 months now, and we’ve learned a lot about bringing high-quality ingredients to our community.

We’ve seen firsthand the challenges of bringing these ingredients to an unincorporated and rural area, but we’ve also found ways to overcome these challenges.

One of the biggest challenges we faced was finding a reliable source of fresh meat. We wanted to offer our customers the best possible quality, so we were willing to go the extra mile to find distributors who are willing to source from farmers who process animals humanely and sustainably.

When I bought the store, I was told over and over again that the best thing to do was to bring in the cheapest possible option. But I believed then, and I still believe now, that you don’t have to have a silver spoon to eat high-quality ingredients.

We worked through several different distributors and eliminated entire companies that were unwilling to help us source the quality and the price we were looking for in Calcutta. We are confident that we are on the right track now, as we have found true partners who help us bring in items that they may not carry yet, but that there is a genuine need for in our area.

To the old crusty sales people who told me from day one that I couldn’t have it both ways, that I couldn’t offer clean products and a fair price, I am telling you now, yes, I can. And I do.

And we will continue to break down distribution barriers until we have the access in Calcutta to allow people to eat healthy in their budgets.

We also had to learn a lot about refrigeration and food distribution to ensure that our meat stayed fresh from farm to table. I had to learn how a compressor works, even though I had sold appliances for many years. I was completely struck by surprise in our first summer when the temperature in our shop reached 85 degrees. I learned how many different pieces of equipment go into maintaining a perfect environment for refrigeration to work perfectly.

We also learned how important it is to inspect temperatures of our items on delivery. The cold chain is vital to the freshness of everything in our store, and we never let anything in our doors that doesn’t meet that cold chain standard. Ever.

Another challenge we faced was maintaining cleanliness in our store. We know that cleanliness is essential for food safety, so we’ve disassembled our entire cooler and cleaned it from the bottom to the top. We also have strict procedures in place for cleanliness and sanitization. Our staff has also attended several state-led trainings on modern sanitization practices.

We have also learned how the team of people that passionately attend to the work listed above make all the difference. Food tastes better when the person that packages it for you cares about you. You make your meals as a way to show love and appreciation to your families, and our team works tirelessly to make sure that the food you get from Beresford’s is fresh, clean, expertly packaged, and delivered with a smile and usually some fun.

Through it all, we’ve learned that delivering high-quality ingredients is more than just a business for us. It’s a way to contribute to the health and well-being of our community.

We believe that everyone deserves to have access to healthy food, and we’re committed to providing our customers with the best possible quality.

We’re proud to offer a variety of high-quality ingredients to our community, and we’re committed to continuing to learn and grow so that we can provide our customers with the best possible experience.

Thank you for being a part of our community!
